Bargain Books : White Sale : Bid List : Hurts : Terms of Sale : Other Bookfairs
Another way for publishers to sell books to bargain book buyers is through a bid list, whereby a publisher can auction off large quantities of a specific title, usually at a lower price than a white sale will bring. Some publishers allow booksellers to bid on partial quantities of titles, thus allowing a much broader audience the opportunity to buy these books, but publishers often give preference to whole quantity bids.
CIROBE attendees are most interested in white sales; and, unlike bid lists, all CIROBE attendees can participate in white sales. Therefore, to get the most benefit from exhibiting, CIROBE encourages publishers to focus mainly on white sales.
However, although CIROBE discourages publishers from introducing a bid list at CIROBE (because many of the remainder companies who are the target market for bids are busy selling at their own booth, as well as the reasons in the previous paragraph), some publishers find it convenient to bring just one set of samples of bid books and to conduct a remainder sale at the show.
